Football Reach: child safety standards

About this page

This page sets out our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) for Football Reach: Training Log, published on Google Play by APPS 365 and on the App Store by APPS 365 LTD. Both are Apps 365 Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 13955007).

Football Reach is a training log for football players aged 8 and over, their parents and their coaches.

Zero tolerance

We do not tolerate child sexual abuse or exploitation of any kind, including:

  • grooming, or any attempt by an adult to build a relationship with a child in order to abuse or exploit them;
  • child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind;
  • sexualised contact, comments or requests involving a child;
  • attempts to get a child's contact details or to move contact with a child off Football Reach.

Anyone who does any of these is removed from Football Reach and reported to the authorities.

How the app is designed to prevent harm

Football Reach is designed so that the usual routes for abuse do not exist:

  • No messaging. There are no direct messages and no free text between users. Praise, reactions and coach announcements come from fixed lists.
  • No media. Users cannot upload, send or share photos, videos, audio, files or links with each other. The app has no video recording.
  • No strangers. There is no search, no follows, no friend requests and no public profiles. Squads are closed and invite-only.
  • Parents in charge. A parent or guardian holds the account for every player under 16, approves every squad a child joins, and sees everything a coach sees about their child.
  • Checked coaches only. A coach can reach players under 18 only after their club's welfare officer has confirmed them, or when they run a provider listing we have checked for safeguarding. Payment never unlocks this.
  • Everything recorded. Every coach action is logged, and every coach announcement is copied to parents.
  • No location. The app never asks for or records location.
  • Nicknames only. Players are shown by a nickname a parent approved and a kit avatar, never a photo, surname, school or club.

Reporting in the app

Users can raise a concern without leaving the app:

  • Report a concern is on every squad screen and in Help.
  • For children it is never behind the parent check, and it shows Childline (0800 1111), the CEOP button and "call 999 if someone is in danger now" in child-friendly words.
  • Parents, coaches and anyone else can also email hello@footballreach.com.

Every report comes to us first and a person reviews it within 24 hours. A concern is never shown to the parent, the coach or the squad, and the person reported is never told who reported them.

How we handle suspected abuse material or grooming

When we suspect child sexual abuse material or grooming, we:

  1. do not open, copy or forward any suspected abuse material;
  2. suspend the account of the person concerned at once;
  3. keep the record, securely and with access limited to the people handling the case;
  4. report to CEOP and the police;
  5. tell the club welfare officer, unless that would tip off the person concerned.

A concern about a coach also pauses that coach's praise, homework and announcements at once, before review. If nobody can review a concern within 24 hours, every squad with an open concern is paused.

We cooperate fully with the police and other authorities, and preserve records they need. We report child sexual exploitation and abuse content or activity that we find to the National Crime Agency, as the Online Safety Act 2023 requires of services like ours, as well as to CEOP and the police.

Compliance with child safety laws

Football Reach is run from the United Kingdom and launches in the UK only. We comply with UK child safety law, including the Online Safety Act 2023 (we carry out and record the illegal content, children's access and children's risk assessments, and follow Ofcom's codes of practice), UK data protection law and the ICO Children's Code. We follow The FA's safeguarding guidance for grassroots football.

Our child safety contact

Our named contact for child safety, who can speak about our CSAE prevention practices and compliance, is:

The same person is named in Google Play Console.

If you need help now

If a child is in immediate danger, call 999. Children and young people can call Childline free on 0800 1111 or visit childline.org.uk. Report online sexual abuse or grooming to CEOP at ceop.police.uk.

Changes

We review these standards every 12 months and before any significant change to the app, for example adding photos, clip uploads or any free text.
